[in press] Small Neural Networks as Models of Cross-Linguistic Speech Perception
Proceedings of the Society for Computation in Linguistics, 2026
This work shows that small neural networks trained to perform Spanish vowel classification mimic adult Spanish-dominant listeners’ misperception of Catalan vowels, indicating that these models have promise as compact models of cross-linguistic speech perception.

Löffelsprache: A Typologically Unusual Language Game
Published:
This study aims to show that Löffelsprache, a German Geheimsprache or secret language cannot be accurately classified using existing criteria associated with the description of language games.
Comparing Computational Models of Monosyllabic Word Acceptability
Published:
This project presents three models which score monosyllabic words on their English wellformedness or acceptability, and determines which model best matches gradient human intuition.
A Templatic Analysis for Two Dialects of Löffelsprache, a German Language Game
Published:
This study demonstrates that Löffelsprache, a German language game, cannot be classified using existing descriptive criteria of language games, and posits a novel analysis, iterative templatic transformation, to account for language game forms.
